Arduino Day Celebration – Saturday March 16

Come Celebrate World Arduino Day! The event will be held Saturday March 16 from 1-4PM in Clippinger Lab Room 035 on the Athens Campus of Ohio University. Co-sponsored by the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery, the Ohio University Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Athens Makers (now Discovery Lab), we’ll gather for a time of workshops and sharing of sample projects for beginners and advanced users alike. Check out the pin at the Official Arduino Day website: https://day.arduino.cc/

The event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome, though the work will be most appropriate for ages 11 through adult. Laptops and Arduinos will be available for people to borrow for the workshop time.

A variety of sample projects will be made available in the space. Beginner workshops will be available starting at 1, 2, and 3. Space will also be provided for those who would like to bring projects, either completed or in progress, to share with others in the community.

No registration is required, but if you have any questions or know in advance you intend to come, please feel free to contact Mark Lucas at lucasm@ohio.edu.

If you are coming from out of town, the best route is to take US-50/33 to the 682 exit south of campus. At the roundabout head North over the Richland Avenue bridge towards the Stadium. At the first intersection turn right onto South Green Drive. Clippinger is on the left just past the pond. Parking is available around the area. Do NOT PAY for parking. If you go past Clippinger, the lot on the right should have free parking as long as you don’t park in a metered spot. The best entrance will be the Southwest corner of Clippinger right off of South Green Drive. Head downstairs and you will find the event rooms.

Cardboard Home Design/Build/Automation Project – July 14, 21, 28, 2016

We’re going to try a larger project starting July 14. The goal is for groups so design, build and automate a small cardboard house.  Time to pull out the Arduinos, Cardboard, Hot Glue Guns, and Creativity! While participants will work in groups and this is a multi-week project, don’t stay away if you can’t make a week or two. If all goes well, we may have the chance to display the houses at the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery in August!

Disclaimer: Our houses will NOT look the one the image!

Arduino Workshop – June 9, 2016

Where: Clippinger 036, Ohio University, Athens OH.

When: 6-8PM

While this is the second week of the workshop, people who were not able to attend the first week are welcome. Much of the time will be spent on tutorials working at your own speed, and there will be plenty of people who can help you get rolling.

For those who were able to attend the first week, we will review some of the work from the first week and see what we can do to understand a little more about what was going on. There will be lots of latitude as to what you can work on, but for those who are interested, the focus will be on using the buzzers with various inputs.

As before parents are encouraged to hang around, especially for the younger kids. We will have a collection of kits, but feel free to bring your own if you have one.

Makey Makey Workshop June 15, 2015

The Makey Makey is a small arduino-powered board that can emulate a keyboard or a mouse using anything that can conduct electricity. Hook it up to yourself and a banana and suddenly you’re controlling the computer using a banana keyboard! See http://makeymakey.com/    We will meet from 6-8PM in Clippinger 036. I will provide a variety of materials to try out ( a few bananas, some playdough, aluminum foil, etc…) but if you have things you’d like to try (within reason!), bring it in!
