Athens Maker Space

AthensMakers is not the same as Athens Maker Space! (ReUse Industries)

When the AthensMakers were started back in 2013, a few minutes of brainstorming came up with the name and it stuck. Over the past decade, makerspaces have grown up around the country and take on a variety of forms. The AthensMakers might be described more as a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) focused exploration environment for middle and high-schooled aged kids. As we transition activities to the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery over the next year or two, the activities will fall under the supervision of what is called Discovery Lab.

In the meantime ReUse Industries has created the Athens Maker Space, which is a more traditional maker space for people of all ages, with an emphasis on upcycling materials (re-using materials to make something new) and tools to develop a wide variety of skills, such at metal and woodworking, fabrication, working with fabric, etc…. Please visit their web site! They are just getting started and there will be a lot of good stuff going on over there.
