What is AthensMakers

AthensMakers is an outreach program geared towards providing informal education opportunities for middle and high school-aged kids. We try to abide by such philosophies as “Discover, Explore, Make” and “Learn by Doing”.

Projects have included a wide range of STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Education, Arts and Mathematics) activities. In the past these have included work with Arduino microcontrollers, 3D printers, programming with Scratch, pvc marshmallow shooters, marble runs, sail cars, judo bots and much more.

For the time being we have not required registration and there is no fee. This currently a completely volunteer operation, and supplies and equipment are gathered from a variety of different resources (see “Special Thanks”). In the future we are looking to fold these activities into the Discovery Lab at the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery and be able to support both a wider range of activities and year-round programming. At that time we’ll need to start charging for activities.
